Heat Exchanger Plate Type Selection

  Heat transfer plate type or corrugated type should be based on the actual needs of heat transfer occasions. We should use a small resistance PHE plate type for big flow rate and small allowable plate heat exchanger pressure drop. On the contrary,Used the big resistance heat exchanger plate design.

Determined to choose a plate type exchanger or brazed plate heat exchanger depend on the fluid pressure and temperature.Don’t choose small heat transfer area per plate when confirm the heat transfer plate type.It cause too much gasket plate,lower velocity between two plates and low heat transfer coefficient.We should pay attention to this problem if the plate exchanger calculation is large.

Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers Flow Path and Channel Selection

  The flow refers to a set of parallel flow paths in the same flow direction of a medium in the plate exchange.The channel refers to the fluid flow channel between two plate heat exchanger plates in PHE. Generally, several flow paths are connected in parallel or in series to form different combinations of cold and hot medium passes.

  The path combination should be based on heat transfer and fluid resistance to calculate and meet the requirements of process. As far as possible to make convective heat transfer coefficient equal or close in the cold and hot channel.So it can get the best heat transfer effect. It will obtain a large heat transfer coefficient value when the heat transfer coefficient on both sides is equal or close. Although velocity between two plates in plate type heat exchanger design is different,the average flow rate is still calculated in the heat transfer and fluid resistance calculation.It’s easy to disassemble because the connections are fixed on the compress plate for “U” shape single pass.

Plate Type Exchanger Pressure Drop Check

  In the plate type heat exchanger design selection,Usually pressure drop has certain requirements, so it should be checked. If the pressure drop exceeds the allowable pressure drop, plate type heat exchanger design calculation must be repeated until met the process requirements.

Plate Heat Exchanger Calculation Method

  The heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop is calculated from the performance curve of each plate heat exchanger manufacturer's product.Generally the performance curve (criterion correlation) comes from product performance testing. If plate heat exchanger types is lacking in performance testing,  it can get the criterion correlation through the reference size method, according to the characteristics of plate-type geometric size.Some of the international heat exchanger design software are used this method.
